The Data Lab
CLIENT: The Data Lab
PROJECT: Big Data Scotland – Event Package
Sublime worked closely with The Data Lab from the very beginning of this project, helping them develop a brief from scratch that matched their aims for Scotland’s principal Data Science event: Big Data Scotland.
The Data Lab in the first instance wanted to create a visual presentation that explained the profusion and exponential growth of high quality data in our everyday lives, and its value for everyone from ordinary members of the public, to scientists, academics and industry.
They also wanted this to draw attention to their own work as one of 6 Scottish Innovation Centres in connecting people and businesses to the power of data.
During the pre-production phase of The Data Lab film, Sublime hosted a series of creative workshops with the TDL team to determine the brief and define the key messaging for the film. Sublime developed a top level narrative to engage with an audience of industry leaders and academics. The pre-production process included scriptwriting, iterative storyboarding and visual references ahead of live action film shoot.
For the immersive data visualisation element, we were able to harness IBM’s ‘Watson’ cloud computing platform to sample language from the event’s social media feeds and then depict the interpreted feelings visually inside the Portal.
The Portal presented a unique opportunity for Sublime and The Data Lab to collaborate on a world-first: Live data presented as 3D visualisation in a fully immersive space.
The film was extremely well received by The Data Lab and had a similarly an excellent response effectively engaging a much wider audience on social networking channels and at the data sciences event.
“We have shown it to the team this morning and we are all delighted, looks fantastic and really conveys the message we wanted to get across. Thanks for all the effort the team and yourself have spent on this.”
Brian Hills – Head of Product Management
“Everything was absolutely fantastic! The app and film were both great and attendees loved the Portal. The feedback from the event so far has been outstanding.”
